About this archive

What is the Apple IIGS? has been curated by Alex Lee since 1996: three decades spent tracking down, testing, scanning and documenting the software library of Apple's 16-bit machine, including titles that exist nowhere else.

The site first went online in the early 2000s and this is its third major incarnation. In 2026 the archive was rebuilt as the fast, static site you are reading, with the same content, the original platinum-and-rainbow spirit, and no server to age out from under it. The full collection is preserved redundantly.

The rebuild also connects the archive to real hardware: through the streaming catalog, the software here boots directly on Apple IIGS machines fitted with a CoGS or A2retroNET card.
